The Loran Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered in Canada to high-school students applying to universities. The selection process focuses on the characteristics of integrity, courage, grit and personal autonomy rather than traditional academic measures.

The scholarship is tenable at one of 25 partner universities, providing a $10,000 annual stipend, matching tuition waiver, personal mentorship from a Canadian leader, and access to our network and up to $10,000 in funding for summer internships in three different sectors (enterprise, public policy and community development).

  • Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%.
  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Be at least 16 years of age by September 1st of the following year.

Eligibility Criteria for CEGEP Students

Selection Process

The selection process for becoming a Loran Scholar occurs through two different processes with different deadlines.

The sponsored application process involves being nominated by your school. The foundation’s 24 regional committees review the sponsored applications in their area and invite shortlisted candidates (semi-finalists) to attend interviews in their region or province. Outstanding semi-finalists are invited to attend national selections in Toronto in February.

A direct-pool application submitted without school sponsorship. The national committee reviews direct pool applications and conducts videoconference interviews with shortlisted candidates (semi-finalists). Similarly, outstanding semi-finalists are invited to attend national selections in Toronto in February.

Applicants are encouraged to seek sponsorship from their schools due to the opportunity to participate in in-person regional interviews.
